According Dr. AbdulAziz Al-Sadhan, General Supervisor of the Information Technology and Communication (ITC) department at PNU, VIVA (Telepaty’s sister company) and PNU launched the platform’s concept, a first of its kind worldwide, according to studies conducted by leading law firms in the Intellectual Property and Software development domain. The concept consists of a secure and closed-user and open social media messaging platform dedicated to students and faculty members at the same time, and is open to the world through highly encrypted communication interfaces and algorithms. PNU and VIVA aim to offer students in the Kingdom highly secure, flexible and real time communication means including support, contact center, personal services and community management tools. Dr. Hatem Khaled Osman, Chairman and CEO of Telepaty, Creator and Founder of VIVA, explained the VIVA platform and its mobile interface allow the configuration of clusters of users within PNU’s space. These clusters are headed by an administrator and are completely independent, acting as separate communities yet as part of the university into the VIVA World. Eng. Abdulhamid Asaad, Vice General Director of the ITC department, clarified these clusters can be based on colleges, faculties, types of activities, special group members, curriculums and other factors, auto-generated by integration based on PNU’s real system structure. The purpose is to exchange presence, information, updates, maps, facilities, courses, media files, support, contact centers, access, attendances, documents of all formats and direct translation, amongst other tools, in a social media like environment. Based on the configuration and setup of each cluster, information can be disseminated to individual or groups communities or the whole universe. In this case, a lecturer can inform the class about any modifications to the curriculum or schedule, the registrar can publish all types of information and the Dean of Students can send messages and files to certain groups. Dr. Osman further added, “The VIVA community marks the beginning of an extremely rich, full-feature application which will include multiple mobile wallets linked to the VIVA account in the future and the PNU student card (to become VIVA Mada payment Card), enabling students to use these wallets both inside and outside campus. To complement this wallet, a VIVA m-commerce network of merchants will be created gradually while a VIVA m-health service will be implemented, making the PNU model the pioneer of a state-of-the-art and comprehensive community platform aimed at expanding to other sectors in the Kingdom’s economy.”
