HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation (UAE Suqia), has announced that Suqia is the exclusive sponsor of the State of Sustainability Report – UAE 2016. Al Tayer reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to sustainability and addressing these issues locally and internationally.
According to Al Tayer, the efforts of the UAE continue to play a major role in supporting and enhancing sustainable development, in addition to other renewable energy initiatives: “UAE Suqia’s sponsorship of the State of Sustainability Report — UAE 2016,’ is an important step towards achieving sustainable development. The report features an extensive analysis of environmental efficiency procedures within the UAE. The current goal is to work on developing these procedures to achieve objectives within the next 15 years,” said Al Tayer.
The Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence launched the State of Sustainability Report — UAE 2016 in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (formerly known as the Ministry of International Cooperation and Development), and in association with the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority (FCSA), during the World Government Summit, held on 8-10 February.
The report was launched in participation with HE Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, HE Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Secretary General of the Emirates Competitiveness Council, HE Najla Al Kaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for International Cooperation, Waleed Salman, Chairman of the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence, and Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia.
“UAE Suqia falls under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives. It is the exclusive sponsor of the State of Sustainability Report — UAE 2016. UAE Suqia’s sponsorship of the report supports the directives of our wise leadership, headed by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to support sustainable development in the UAE. The Foundation is supporting sustainable development for all mankind by creating and supporting different initiatives and humanitarian aid campaigns, in line with its commitment to enhance the UAE’s international position, and to improve the living conditions of poor and disaster-stricken areas, as well as support international efforts to provide clean drinking water, as defined by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,” said Al Tayer.
“UAE Suqia cooperates with different government, federal, and local organisations to support sustainable development and to broaden the UAE’s role in achieving the new UN Sustainable Development Goals, which are aimed at eradicating poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring prosperity for all. UAE Suqia has greatly developed its role in supporting international efforts to provide drinking water through its strong presence in critical areas, as well as by providing emergency, and long-term aid around the world,” said Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia.
The State of Sustainability Report — UAE 2016 is the first in a series of annual publications that will serve as a tool for analysis and communication with stakeholders and partners to support and enhance future reports and reporting requirements. The report is expected to become a platform for highlighting progress, solutions, and success stories in the sustainable development of the economy, society and the environment. The report also shows the UAE’s contribution towards achieving sustainable goals and the development of other countries. The publication also highlights the progress made by the public and private sectors in achieving the 17 goals for sustainable development, adopted by the UN during the World Summit on Sustainable Development.
