Leading transport research firm to highlight ‘SCOOT,’ one of the most cost effective Intelligent Transport Systems in existence, as a solution for urban traffic issues.
TRL, a global centre for innovation in transport and mobility, has revealed its move to throw the spotlight on advanced adaptive technologies that can be used to help enhance and improve urban traffic management during their participation at NATRANS Expo 2016, the GCC’s leading future transport technology and ITS trade show, which will be held from October 25 to October 26, 2016 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The company, which is also the event’s knowledge partner, will highlight the importance of SCOOT, a cost effective Intelligence Transport System, and how it can be used as a solution to address urban traffic issues.
Recent industry reports have shown that the Dubai Autonomous Transportation Strategy, an initiative launched by His Highness (H.H.) Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is expected to help transform 25 per cent of the emirates' transportation into autonomous mode by the year 2030--collectively saving AED 22 billion in annual economic costs. In line with this, the presence of 'Intelligent Transport Systems' (ITS) will play a critical role in the development of a sustainable smart city. These systems include the application of information technology, sensors and communications to transport in order to improve safety, efficiency and environmental performance.
“With the constant increasing vehicular traffic, persistent traffic jams and rising number of accidents especially in urban areas, advanced adaptive technologies can help to enhance urban traffic management,” said Tawab Kazemi, UAE Country Director and Head of Transportation, TRL. “Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have emerged as a cost effective technology that bear a pivotal potential to overcome these difficulties. This technology enables a new broad range of smart city applications around urban sensing including traffic safety, traffic congestion control, road state monitoring, vehicular warning services, and parking management. We are proud to participate at NATRANS Expo this year and look forward to the opportunity of meeting and interacting with various transport authorities and government bodies from the GCC, who are looking at embracing the advanced technologies for the Future of Transport in the region.”
This year's edition of NATRANS Expo will be composed of two main conferences--the first one covering the important role of the 'Internet of Things' (IoT) in smart transportation and the other on ‘Sustainable Transportation’. At the IoT Smart Transportation conference, Mr. Kazemi, will give a presentation on SCOOT, the most advanced adaptive signal control system in the world, responding automatically to fluctuations in traffic flow through the use of vehicle detectors. He will also highlight the significance of signalizing road networks, traffic light control & coordination and the implementation of an optimized signal timings plan.
Akin Adamson, Director – Middle East, TRL, will be giving the opening address on both the days of NATRANS Expo, he will also be moderating a panel discussion on the topic,’ Future of Transportation with Innovation as a Driver’. Meanwhile, George Zakhem, Program Manager, TRL, will be holding a unique workshop on Autonomous Vehicles that will discuss the various advantages and also challenges in the implementation of the Autonomous Vehicles as the Future of Transport in Smart Cities.
TRL has been working across the whole Middle East region for over a decade now and has built a reputation for technical excellence, innovation and the ability to adapt world leading ideas to the unique conditions of the region. TRL is well placed to help government bodies and companies in the UAE with their knowledge and capabilities--planning and implementing safe, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all.
