Under the auspices of His Excellency the Minister of Telecommunications Jamal Jarrah represented by his advisor Jamal Fakhouri, Alfa, managed by Orascom TMT, organized with Ericsson the second edition of the “Alfa and Ericsson IoT Award”, in collaboration with the IEEE Young Professionals Lebanon.
Addressed at senior Lebanese university students in computer and electrical engineering, this year's competition saw an increase in the number of teams and participating universities compared to last year, with 17 teams of 47 students from 12 universities.
In the final stage of the competition, five teams competed for the first prize, which was won by the “Gaia” team from Notre-Dame University (NDU). The “Lebanese” team from the Lebanese University- Fanar took home the second prize while the third prize was claimed by the “We Make” team from the Lebanese University- Roumieh and the Lebanese University- Fanar.
This initiative represents one of the aspects of cooperation and partnership between Alfa and Ericsson and is part of Alfa's commitment to the United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030, namely Goal 9, which promotes innovation in technology. It also comes in the context of Alfa's commitment to support young entrepreneurs and its relentless efforts to introduce Lebanon to IoT after completing its first 5G live demo in Lebanon in cooperation with Ericsson prior to its launch in the country.
