Ministry of Health and Prevention signs agreement with Boehringer Company Middle East and North Africa

Collaboration aims to reduce rate of fatal heart attacks and strokes

The Ministry of Health and Prevention has recently signed an Agreement with Boehringer Company Middle East and North Africa, to strengthen collaboration towards reducing the rate of illnesses and deaths resulting from strokes and heart attacks. This was done in conjunction with Arab Health 2017, which is currently taking place from January 30, 2017 to February 2, 2017 at the World Trade Dubai Center.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Youssif Al Serkal, Assistant Undersecretary for the Ministry of Health & Prevention Hospitals Sector and Mohammed Al Tawil, the General Manager of Boehringer Ingelheim's, in the presence of Dr. Kulthum, Mohammed Al Balushi, Director of Hospital Administration and Carla Abu Zayd, Director of Marketing in the Middle East for the Angels stroke program and Ahmed Samir, the Middle East Director in charge of the implementation and pricing for the heart attack program.

Dr. Youssif Al Serkal emphasized the important role the agreement with Boehringer Company plays towards reducing mortality the rate of heart attack and stroke. This falls in line with the Ministry's efforts to provide quality health services to the UAE community; improve the quality of labor regulations; enhance the development of health facilities and provide the public easy access to treatment in accordance with international standards. All of this is in the context of policies, legislation, and programs formed by effective local and international partnerships developed to improve the national index by reducing the number of deaths from cardiovascular disease, according to the objectives of the National Agenda.

He shared that the agreement will initially cover both Al Qasimi and Obaidullah hospitals and will focus on the improvement of the treatment procedures rendered to patients who have suffered a stroke or a heart attack. In addition, the agreement will also see the formation of a joint team composed of representatives from the Ministry and Boehringer that will be tasked in overseeing the agreed programs covered by the agreement--including Boehringer's commitment to establish specialized units and the provision of experts tasked with analyzing and improving guidelines on how to best treat stroke and heart attack patients. Alsimid, a company specializing in health care, will also work in close coordination with Boehringer and the Ministry to enhance and develop pre- and post- patient arrival in the two hospitals. Lastly, the agreement also covers the creation of a special database to support the Ministry hospitals and to easily obtain information and data covering international accreditation from German Stroke Society.
