Middle East Waste and Recycling to kick off in Dubai as Municipality targets Zero Waste by 2030

Waste management recycling expo to highlight region’s major leap in waste management and recycling

How can the Emirate of Dubai move away from the current 7,000 tonnes of waste produced per day and achieve the “Zero Waste by 2030” target set by the Dubai Municipality? The third edition of Middle East Waste and Recycling, the region’s only dedicated event for the waste management industry, will answer this and other compelling questions showcasing innovative solutions for public waste management amid wide environmental sustainability efforts. Taking place at the Dubai World Trade Centre from May 23 to 25, 2016, Middle East Waste and Recycling will bring under one roof key industry leaders, decision makers, professionals involved in waste management and recycling services, along with latest technologies and equipment.

Environmentally sustainable waste management is a hot topic in the Middle East today. Recently, the UAE adopted specific measures to achieve the ‘zero waste’ objective and successfully divert 75 per cent of waste from landfills by 2021. Oman is working to establish 13 engineered landfills and 36 waste transfer stations in different parts of the country. Saudi Arabia, whose volume of solid waste is expected to hit the 25,000 tonnes per day by 2020, is striving to reinforce its waste management and recycling sectors.

These industry challenges and related business opportunities will be explored during the Middle East Waste and Recycling with prominent experts. Andreas Hoeptner, Founder and Managing Partner of H-2-P Project Management, a specialist in facility and waste management, will be presenting his findings on ‘Medical Waste Masterplan: Developing a Healthcare Waste Strategy in Ras Al Khaimah’ at the expo. “It is a privilege to be invited to the event and share the results of my latest report with my peers. Middle East Waste and Recycling will take place at Za'abeel Halls 4 to 6, alongside the FM Expo, Elevators & Access Control, Commercial Cleaning & Hygiene, and Outdoor Design & Build 2016, as part of the first Community Management Week organized by dmg events. Featuring over 150 exhibitors, the platform will connect almost 9,000 participants and key regional industry players: a unique opportunity to source new products and services, meet existing suppliers, and use the three days to network with peers.

During the trade show, visitors can also attend for free a one-day, high-level conference titled 'Harnessing the Potential of Smart Technologies and Process Innovation in Developing Efficient, Sustainable and Forward-Looking Waste Management Strategies.’ In addition, over 20 free Continuing Professional Development (CDP) certified workshops will be held to highlight the latest products, innovations, technologies and regulations in the industry. Each workshop will be delivered by an industry specialist, who will share significant insights into an ever-evolving business landscape based on real-world experience.
