TRL, the global centre for innovation in transport and mobility, has strengthened its operations in the Middle East with the opening of a new office in Al Barsha, Dubai. The new office is a response to increasing demand from clients--supporting the growth and development of TRL’s business across the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The office opening further strengthens TRL’s growing footprint in the UAE, adding to the company’s existing offices in Abu Dhabi. Strategically positioned within the heart of the Middle East’s business and transport hub, the new office will provide enhanced access to TRL expert services for new and existing clients, including the Dubai RTA, Dubai Municipality and the Ministry of Infrastructure Development.
The move is part of TRL’s investment in the UAE and reaffirms the company’s frontline role in shaping the future of transport. Through the opening of the new Dubai office, TRL will now be able to offer its world class capabilities in the emirate—including road safety, traffic & congestion management, materials research & testing and sustainability.
“I am delighted that TRL continues to grow its business in Dubai and the wider Middle East. I have worked with them in other markets and know the quality of their work,” said Alastair Long, Director of Trade and Investment, British Embassy. “The Department for International Trade helps companies like TRL find business opportunities in the UAE, and helps UAE companies grow their business by putting them in touch with British suppliers. I wish TRL every success as they embark on this exciting new endeavour.”
As Dubai seeks to lead the region for innovation, including EXPO 2020 and various ’smart’ programmes of work, TRL will also be offering its pedigree of cutting edge research, covering areas such as autonomous and connected vehicles, ultra-low emission vehicles and smart city/transportation innovations.
The new office will be led by Tawab Kazemi, UAE Director and Head of Transportation at TRL. Kazemi has worked in the UAE for more than a decade and is regarded as one of the company's most experienced and knowledgeable transport engineers. He has worked regionally on engagements covering road and rail safety as well as on private and public transport policy and research.
“Dubai has a rapidly developing transportation system that is evolving to cater to the needs of its diverse and growing population. Its ambition and desire to innovate across all forms of transport, aligns with our own mission to drive improvements in future transport. Through the opening of the new office, TRL is well placed to help Dubai succeed in planning and implementing safe, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all,” commented Kazemi.
The opening is also seen as another milestone to what has been an impressive 2016 for TRL. In the last few months TRL has continued to provide its crash database system (iMAAP) to support a data and fact based foundation for road safety decision making; implemented multiple road safety interventions including iRAP (International Roads Assessment Programme) in Qatar and conducted multiple road safety audits and improvements to driver training and licensing; continued to support the region's sustainability agenda for transport related topics such as vehicle emissions and air/noise quality as well as encouraging the use of recycled materials. An example of which can be seen in the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between TRL and Qatar Primary Materials Company (QPMC) to assure the quality of recycled aggregates.
Akin Adamson, Middle East Director, TRL added: “The opening of the Dubai office is another significant step in our support for growth in the UAE. We already have a strong presence in the UAE, but the Dubai office will enable us to further broaden our expert services in the region, ensuring TRL retains and strengthens its leading role in helping to create a global transport system that is safe, clean, affordable, liveable and efficient.”
TRL has been advising clients in the UAE for more than nine years and operates across the whole Middle East region. It has also previously performed consultancy and research studies in Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Lebanon and Egypt.
