Omantel & TRA participants actively take part in forum
The Omani government’s Information Technology Authority (ITA) recently hosted Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Center’s (RIPE NCC) first highly successful workshop for the Omani Government in Muscat as it continues to work on facilitating the transition and migration of public and private organizations to Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). Telecommunications employees and Internet service providers (ISPs) staff took part in the training to learn how to work with IPv6 and effectively implement it on their respective networks.
The RIPE NCC has developed various initiatives to support its members, governments and related entities with their IPv6 deployments. The joint training in Muscat was held as part of the RIPE NCC’s capacity-building efforts and as part of the ITA’s initiative to develop a roadmap for IPv6 deployment in Oman. Representatives from Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel), Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) were present in the workshop.
Paul Rendek, Director of External Relations at the RIPE NCC, agreed that the event was a great success. “The workshop was held in an atmosphere where both technical and non-technical attendees were able to share ideas on IPv6-related issues. As the workshop was not purely technical, everybody felt comfortable with the interactive discussion, encouraging the audience to participate and ask questions. The feedback we received showed that attendees were keen for more information and willing to meet RIPE NCC again to learn more about IPv6”.
The RIPE NCC seeks to continuously strengthen its partnerships with government entities and law enforcement agencies to develop effective solutions to deal with cybercrime and other challenges through IPv6 migration.
The rapid growth in digital technology has stimulated huge demand for Internet services and brought social and economic development globally. By sharing expertise with network operators to help their networks become future-proof, the RIPE NCC is helping to drive sustainable development and economic growth across its service region.
