Public donates more than 63,000 books, 46,500 toys, and 52,000 kilograms of clothes
Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, retail and leisure pioneer across the Middle East and North Africa, today announced it achieved a record number of donations during its annual ‘Make a Difference’ Ramadan initiative, which supports underprivileged families across the region.
The programme, which is now in its 10th year, encouraged people to donate books, toys, clothes and money via collection points across its destinations in Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman, and the UAE. In total, more than 13,000 people contributed more than 63,000 books, 46,500 toys, and 52,000 kilograms of clothes, up from 36,000 kilograms in 2015. The company also received USD 84,868 (AED 311,699) in cash donations from customers, who were also able to contribute through Najm, Majid Al Futtaim’s Visa credit card.
Across the region, Majid Al Futtaim partnered with charitable organisations such as the Islamic Association in Bahrain, Life Makers in Egypt, Bassma in Lebanon, Dar Al-Atta in Oman, and Red Crescent in the UAE. Working with these humanitarian aid partners, Majid Al Futtaim will now distribute the donations to families in need across the region.
Alain Bejjani, Chief Executive Officer, Majid Al Futtaim – Holding, said: “We would like to thank our customers and the public at large for celebrating the spirit of giving with us during the Holy Month of Ramadan. Their generosity has been tremendous and will be felt by all who benefit from it. As a company, we are also delighted with the continued success of this initiative year after year and the opportunity to fulfill our commitment to create great moments for everyone, everyday.”
Embracing the spirit of Ramadan, Majid Al Futtaim’s Mall of the Emirates also partnered with the Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates and the Kempinski Mall of the Emirates to gift Iftar packages to the car washing teams at the Mall of the Emirates. The packages included a range of food and beverage items, as well as t-shirts from Majid Al Futtaim.
