Visit aims to promote bilateral relations in UAE and French space industry
UAE, May 5, 2014 - The Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) has discussed prospects of mutual cooperation in the area of scientific researches and space projects with Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES), the National Centre for Space Studies, during a recent visit to CNES headquarters in Paris, France. The high-level delegation were briefed on the latest developments in the field of space industry as well as exchanged technical and scientific expertise with leading French engineers and scientists. The team included Director General H.E. Yousuf Al Shaibani and Eng. Salem Al Marri, Assistant Director General for Scientific and Technical Affairs, along with a group of specialized engineers from EIAST.
H.E. Yousuf Al Shaibani said: “EIAST is keen to strengthen communication, promote exchange of knowledge, and encourage innovation to boost sustainable development in the UAE under the directives of the UAE leadership. The visit is of great important as it serves as an ideal opportunity to enhance bilateral relations between the UAE and France in the field of space industry in a manner that serves mutual aspirations. In a short period, EIAST has not just made great achievements but also managed to build a strong international presence in the space industry and advanced technology sector. The meeting with CNES is part of our commitment to communicate with research and technology leaders in the field of space and satellite industry and therefore maintain strategic partnerships to support international efforts to serve the humanity through science and space technologies.”
For his part, Eng. Salem Al Marri said: “We aim to build a wide network of lucrative and strategic partnerships with leading research centers and international institutions related to satellite manufacturing and space industry. This will definitely boost scientific and technical progress in the UAE as the country continues to prove itself as a leading international center for satellite manufacturing, following the two successful launches of DubaiSat-1 and DubaiSat-2. Through this visit, we look forward to France to activate the channels of communication with CNES, one of the leading research centers in Europe, to exchange the best practices and partner in promising projects and value-added initiatives aimed at serving the global community.”
EIAST was established by the Dubai Government in 2006 with the goal of promoting a culture of advanced scientific research and technology innovation in Dubai and the UAE, and enhancing technology innovation and scientific skills among UAE Nationals. It is mainly involved in outer space research and development; satellite manufacturing and systems development; space imaging; and ground station services and support for other satellites.
