In the aim of the hospitality industry growth
[UAE, 26 October, 2014] - Dubai World Hospitality Championship (DWHC 2014) have recently conducted a workshop at The Meydan Hotel in Dubai for all the participants of the Hospitality Sector Competition, one of the event’s main features, to discuss key guidelines and instructions in the run-up to the championship happening from October 30 to November 1, 2014 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Held in collaboration with Dubai Municipality and Emirates Culinary Guild, the workshop served as a platform for DWHC officials to give a detailed presentation on the 21 categories of the Hospitality Sector Competition which range from ice sculpting to preparations of traditional Arabic dishes.
During the session, Majid Al Marri, Director of Hospitality Sector and International Competition, Shaikha Al Mutawa, Director of Marketing and Communications, Sultan Ali Al Taher, Head of Food and Inspection Section of the Dubai Municipality, Alan Pedge, Vice-President of the Emirates Culinary Guild and Jenan Al Fassam, Coordinator of Hospitality Sector and International Competition, addressed the local, regional and international chefs. They specifically emphasized the importance of ensuring the highest standards of safety and hygiene in food preparation, as well as the aim to increase hospitality industry and sector growth. In addition, the workshop provided an ideal venue for the attendees to raise all their questions and concerns regarding the event.
Majid Al Marri, Director of Hospitality Sector and International Competition at DWHC, said: “We were able to address all their issues, thereby ensuring the smooth conduct of the challenges come the actual competition. From her part, Shaikha Al Mutawa, Director of Marketing and Communications at DWHC said: "The championship succeeded in attracting some of the major local and international institutions and companies from various sectors this year, as well as many sponsors including both Emaar Properties and Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for SME development as strategic partners. Al Mutawa talked about the photography competition for the Dubai World Hospitality Championship in cooperation with Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award "HIPA", where 3 winners will be chosen from each category. The first category under the title of "our hospitality", which reflect the Emirati hospitality at various events; and the second category titled "our legacy", which the history and Emirati culture.
For his part, Al Taher said: “Dubai Municipality fully supports Dubai World Hospitality Championship 2014. The championship’s main aspiration to promote the local and regional hospitality and culinary industries to the international stage reflects our aim to highlight the rich cultural traditions of the Arab region. Moreover, the championship also provides us an opportunity to promote the importance of food safety. We are glad that we were given a chance to discuss the significance of ensuring cleanliness in food preparation through DWHC’s workshop.”
Pedge said: “The workshop is a crucial step in ensuring that all contenders will be well-prepared during the competition. It was a success as we were able to meet the participants up close and thoroughly discuss with them the competition’s regulations and criteria They are now equipped with the proper tools and knowledge to guide them throughout the course of the championship. Furthermore, Dubai Municipality’s commitment is very crucial to DWHC’s overall success.”
Jenan Al Fassam said: "The Hospitality Sector Competition of the Dubai World Hospitality Championship has attracted strong participation from around the world. The participants will compete in different categories that will highlight their technical and aesthetic capabilities in various challenges including wedding cake decoration, chocolate sculpting, ice carving and Emirati and GCC food preparations. Renowned culinary experts and chefs are also taking part in the competition – further bolstering the championship’s overall status as one of the world’s biggest and most prominent hospitality events. In determining the winners, the creations of the contenders will be judged based on various criteria such as taste, cleanliness, and method of preparation.
Dubai World Hospitality Championships will be held from October 30 to November 1, 2014 at the Sheikh Saeed Halls of the Dubai World Trade Center. It is organized by Za’abeel Palace Hospitality in cooperation with the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) and The Emirates Culinary Guild (ECG). The championships consist of four competitions, including International Competition, Emirati Competition, Gulf Products Competition, and Hospitality Sector Competition, aimed at highlighting the rich heritage and culture of the UAE and Gulf region and Arabic countries.
