Alfardan Group will organize an internal Sports Day on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 to mark Qatar’s celebration of National Sport Day and in support of the government’s vision to establish the country as a premier global sports hub. More than 1,000 employees of Alfardan Group are participating in the conglomerate-wide Sports Day to support Qatar’s annual celebration of National Sport Day and help bolster efforts to position the country as a premier global sports center.
While supporting the National Sport Day, Alfardan Sports initiative will help reinforce a feeling of camaraderie among all employees which is a key fundamental strategy of the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility.The Group’s management and employees have been actively involved in preparations to ensure the success of the event which strongly reaffirms the commitment of Alfardan Group towards the initiative in line with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar to create a healthier society for people of all ages, genders and nationalities in Qatar by enhancing sports in our daily lives.
Ali Alfardan, Vice Chairman, Alfardan Group, said: “Qatar is one of the few countries to have a day dedicated solely for Sports activities and we strongly uphold the vision of H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar by organizing a dedicated Sports Day during National Sport Day on 10th February, where we organize various sporting events for our employees to showcase their talents. Alfardan Group has always been a pioneer in supporting sports events throughout the years so as to generate excitement and enthusiasm for sports in Qatar. Our employees at the various Alfardan Group of Companies have taken this initiative very seriously by participating in various activities against different teams within the company to obtain a place in the final matches on the Sport Day.This year will be unique as this event will be held at Al Shefallahiya Oasis part of Alfardan Group. The entire farm will be transformed into a sporting venue on the day with areas for all the various activities. Preparations for the event have been going on for months in anticipation of the sporting event.”

Elimination rounds for various events are now being staged in different locations. Competing teams and players in football, cricket, volleyball, basketball, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton and billiards are battling it out as individual and team finalists will then face each other in their respective divisions during the February 10 final rounds at Al Shefallahiya Oasis part of Alfardan Group
Additionally, Alfardan Group will organize family-centric activities to enable its employees’ kids to participate in the event. This demonstrates the Group’s keenness to promote and support long-held family values within its organization.
National Sport Day is a pioneer initiative adopted by H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar, who issued Emiri Decree No. 80 for the year 2011 on December 6, 2011, creating the State’s National Sport Day. The decree designates second Tuesday of February as Qatar’s National Sport Day. Qatar is one of the few nations in the world to dedicate a Day of Sports for its society.
