Workshop aims to prepare participants for APIC’s international certifications
UAE, January 5, 2015 - Gulf Extrusions (Gulfex), a leading global manufacturer of extruded aluminium products, in partnership with the American University of Sharjah, has recently organized a workshop on Supply Chain Management (SCM) for its senior management team at (Waldorf Astoria-The Palm). The objective of the workshop was to build a strong learning base in the management of the flow of goods for its employees and contribute towards human resource in the field. The workshop included assessment of detailed case studies and hands-on training with enough time for participants to assimilate the material presented. The 3 days Excellence Program was divided into various sessions and covered key topics, including Introduction to Supply Chain Management, Demand Management and Forecasting Techniques, Master Planning, Materials Requirements Planning, Capacity Management and Production Activity Control, Aggregate Inventory Management, Item Inventory Management, and Purchasing and Physical Distribution. It also prepared the participants for the international certification program from the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APIC), a leading professional organization recognized for its body of knowledge in operations management and supply chain management. The workshop also covered the Basics of Supply Chain Management, the first or the entry-level module of APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM).” The participants benefited immensely from the Supply Chain Management workshop. The course enabled them to grasp some of the key concepts, including understand the role, objectives, and responsibilities of materials management in the supply chain; Describe basics forecasting principles and techniques; Understand the functions of production planning and master scheduling; Explain the role of materials requirements planning in the planning process; Describe the objectives of capacity management and how it relates to priority planning; Describe the purpose of inventory and the fundamentals of inventory management; Define procurement, purchasing, purchasing objectives, and the purchasing cycle; Describe the role of the physical distribution system, warehousing, and materials handling; Define Just-in-Time (JIT) systems and compare it pull and push systems; and Describe the role of Total Quality Management (TQM).
