METROPOLITAN INSIGNIA BAG New York City has often served as the inspiration behind Carolina Herrera’s collections. It was there that her early work was exhibited in some of the city’s most iconic locations. The Plaza and the Pierre, Bryant Park, Lincoln Center, the MOMA and the Frick are just some of the venues chosen to present her designs; but none were as important for her career as the Metropolitan Club, where she presented her first twenty outfit collection in a private event in 1981. The collection proved to be an immediate success and gained both critical acclaim and public recognition. It was the beginning of House of Herrera. Metropolitan Insignia Clutch, part of the already quintessential Insignia collection, pays tribute to this milestone in Mrs. Herrera’s career. It was clear from the start what type of design would best suit the club’s atmosphere and its ornate interior designed by Stanford White between 1893 and 1912. It had to be the perfect accessory for any occasion and the ideal companion for the designer’s famous gowns and cocktail dresses. The clutch has a light, metallic structure wrapped in a version of the bracelet which started the entire Insignia project to commemorate the brand’s 35th anniversary. Different materials have gradually been added, inspired by details found in the club’s different rooms. The glossy version is a reference to the different colored crystal chandeliers, while the hand-painted silk model echoes the frescoes from the elegant salon and the embroidered version mirrors the intricate details featured on curtains and tapestry. The most striking version, however, is inspired by the balustrade of the main staircase. Crafted entirely by the same hands responsible for the embroidery on traditional Spanish bullfighting costumes, this piece stands out as the collection’s masterpiece. According to Carolina Herrera, “the first thing that makes a woman elegant is her individuality. It’s not about what you wear, but how you wear it”. Metropolitan Insignia Clutch will definitely be the perfect accessory to make you stand out from the crowd. ALL OF NEW YORK WAS PRESENT: ANDY WARHOL, DIANA VREELAND , C.Z GUEST (...). Based on the geometry of the letters C and H, the House’s distinguishing feature, she built a new emblem where design and craftsmanship come together. Insignia goes beyond initials and becomes a defining piece of the brand’s identity. The original idea stemmed from an almost three-dimensional image which eventually became a subtle yet unmistakable symbol. Insignia bracelet stands at the heart of the project, inspiring the creation of other accessories and collections where this new emblem appears as the indisputable protagonist. Insignia is much more than a logo or a simple physical object; it is a concept full of meaning brought to life in collections with added value. 14 CAROLINA HERRERA CREATED A NEW EMBLEM
