The award will be held under the new theme ‘Inspiring Innovation for Sustainable Energy’
Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) launched today the fourth edition of Emirates Energy Award (EEA) - 2020 to be held under the theme - ‘Inspiring Innovation for Sustainable Energy’.
The fourth edition of the award was unveiled by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), and President of the Emirates Energy Award (EEA) at the second day of The World Green Economy Summit.
“We are launching today the 4th Emirates Energy Award (2020) organised and managed by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) under a new theme of “Inspiring Innovation for Sustainable Energy”. Through this theme, we look forward to promoting a culture of excellence, sustainability and innovation in energy management and efficiency, sustainable alternative energy sources, activating the role of communities, raising awareness of conservation, protecting the environment and preserving our natural resources,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.
HE Al Tayer added that the award’s objectives in the field of energy management come in line with our leadership's vision of making the UAE a hub for innovation. The award is also playing an important role in establishing Dubai as a global center for green economy, energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainability and environmental protection. It has also taken a leading role in providing clean energy legislation and programs for climate change issues as it joined international efforts aiming to preserve the planet by adopting sustainable innovative and creative solutions for the protection of the environment and natural resources.
He further said: “The future vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has had a profound impact on supporting sustainable development across Dubai and the country. This was reflected in the success of the UAE Vision 2021, Dubai 2021 Plan and the long-term national initiative "Green Economy for Sustainable Development" in establishing a clear approach and solid foundation through the launch of ambitious initiatives, which included development projects that combine economic growth, sustainable energy and a clean and safe environment that have contributed to promoting energy efficiency and green growth in the country”.
“The award, which is held every two years and covers the Middle East and North Africa region, will highlight best practices and leading energy efficiency projects to create an international platform for individuals and organizations that will bring together their winners and celebrate their achievements in energy management and efficiency, sustainability and ways of rationalization, thus promoting the exchange of best practices in this field,” HE Al Tayer pointed out.
“Year after year, the number of participants (individuals and institutions) in the Emirates Energy Award is increasing. The last edition of the award has seen more than 210 entries, an increase of more than 80% from the previous edition. We have noticed various and distinguished entries , and have witnessed the participants' awareness and experience of challenges in the field of energy and the importance of sustainability, efficiency and rationalization of consumption, which encouraged us to enhance achievements and contribute to consolidating the concept of sustainable and comprehensive development for the benefit of individuals and communities alike,” HE Al Tayer highlighted.
“I encourage organisations and individuals in the energy sector to participate in the Emirates Energy Award, which follows a specific programme judged by specialised committees, and works according to precise and clear standards to ensure a fair evaluation process for all entries,” he said.
“I would like to reiterate that, we are-together and hand in hand- working to achieve a unified and noble goal to consolidate our efforts to protect the Earth and shoulder our responsibilities by finding innovative solutions in the clean energy field to ensure a happy life with a healthy and clean environment and a sustainable and safe future for us and generations to come,” he concluded.
The Emirates Energy Award (EEA) is a regional award that encourages the rationalised use of energy and resources. The award aims to highlight the best practices and pioneering work in energy efficiency, alternative energy, sustainability and conservation of the environment. The award recognises the efforts of the public and private sectors across the region in energy efficiency, energy projects and education and research in the energy sector. A special recognition award is also available for outstanding contributors to the energy sector.
EEA this year will offer 10 categories which are: Energy Efficiency-Public & Private Sectors (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Energy Efficiency - Private Sector (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Large Energy Project (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Small Energy Project (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Connecting Solar Power to Buildings Project for Large Projects (more than 500 KW) (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Connecting Solar Power to Buildings Project for Small Projects (less than 500 KW) (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Education and Capacity Building (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Applied Research and Product Development (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Young Professional Energy Award (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), and Special Recognition Award.
Since its establishment, several countries have participated at the award including the UAE, Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Oman, KSA, Germany, Palestine, Sweden and Republic of Lesotho. Reports from the organisation suggests that in 2013 and 2015, 28 winners had an opportunity to showcase their green best practices, while in 2017, 33 winners were awarded for their outstanding contributions to the energy sector.
