Dubai Supreme Council of Energy organised a workshop to introduce the National programme to produce electricity using peaceful nuclear energy. The workshop, organised in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), promotes nuclear energy and encouraged closer collaboration within the public sector for it.
The workshop was held at Conrad Hotel in Dubai. It was attended by member organisations of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, and officials and specialists from organisations, and companies working in energy and renewable energy in Dubai.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, emphasised the importance of the workshop, organised in cooperation with FANR, to raise awareness about peaceful nuclear energy and its role in generating electricity, and ensuring the readiness of relevant organisations.
“This workshop supports our efforts to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide 7% of Dubai’s energy from clean sources by 2020, 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050. The strategy consists of five main pillars: infrastructure, legislation, funding, building capacities and skills, and an environmentally-friendly energy mix. This mix will include 25% from solar energy, and 7% from nuclear power,” said Al Tayer.
At the beginning of the workshop, HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, welcomed the participants and commended the efforts FANR, especially for establishing the nuclear energy programme to produce electricity, and its commitment to implementing regulations and protecting individuals and the environment.
“This meeting emphasises the importance of concerted efforts of all federal and local public and private organisations. We work to develop these partnerships, to achieve the UAE Vision 2021, and the Dubai Plan 2021, which have outlined a roadmap that included ambitious initiatives and development projects to provide the best government services and implement the highest international practices to ensure the happiness and satisfaction of people,” said Al Muhairbi.
“Our participation in this workshop supports FANR’s strategy and ongoing efforts to educate our partners in the UAE, and raise awareness about FANR’s role, and the nature of its work as an independent government authority charged with the regulation and licensing of all nuclear-related activities in the UAE,” said Christer Viktorsson, Director General of FANR.
