DMCA launches 3rd edition of Dubai Maritime Week

Under the patronage of H.H. His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the government authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising all aspects of Dubai’s maritime sector, has announced that it has begun preparations to host the 3rd edition of Dubai Maritime Week, the unique event organized by DMCA biennially scheduled to take place from October 30 to November 3, 2016. The event will be held as part of efforts to elevate the global status of Dubai as a world-class maritime destination.

H.E. Sultan bin Sulayem, Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and Chairman of DMCA, expressed his thanks and gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his patronage of Maritime Week, which represents an important step for the recruitment of promising individuals in optimally serving the key aspirations of transforming Dubai into one of the most advanced maritime centres in the world. H.E. commended the continued support of H.H. to the local maritime sector, which has become an important contributor to the national economy and a key pillar to promote and strengthen the competitiveness of the emirate regionally and globally.

H.E. Sultan bin Sulayem, emphasized the pivotal role of Dubai Maritime Week in creating an integrated platform for facilitating communication and cooperation between key decision-makers and leaders of the maritime industry from around the world. He noted that the event is a strategic platform for finding out the latest emerging trends and best practices for elevating the maritime sector locally, regionally and globally. He added that the DMCA is committed to organizing initiatives and events that highlight the promising and distinctive maritime components of Dubai in line with the aspirations of the wise government to achieve higher levels of competitiveness on the global maritime map and in line with Dubai Plan 2021.

H.E. Bin Sulayem said: “The maritime sector of the UAE in general and Dubai in particular has made significant progress in developing maritime infrastructure and promoting the sector’s direct GDP contributions, which in turn, supports the move to reduce oil dependence. DMCA is eager to share impressive achievements in the maritime sector with the international maritime community and exchange experiences and knowledge in order to enhance the general performance of the maritime industry and stimulate a culture of creativity, innovation and continuous improvement in service quality. These are in line with the vision and directions of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to build an integrated maritime sector that is invigorated, inclusive, and diversified”.

A series of world-class events will be held on the sidelines of Dubai Maritime Week 2016, such as the ‘Dubai Maritime Summit’ which will feature the launching of the 1st edition of the Dubai Maritime Innovation Award. The new award will highlight major contributions and innovative initiatives in the local maritime sector throughout the year. The main event will also include a series of specialized workshops for global maritime leaders; the hosting of ‘Seatrade Maritime Middle East’ and a ‘DMCA partners appreciation gathering’; and other relevant seminars and workshops.

This leading event is of strategic importance as it represents a comprehensive platform for reviewing the key advantages and features of the Emirate of Dubai which promote its position as an important regional and global maritime destination.”

Dubai Maritime Week 2016 is expected to attract more than 350 exhibitors representing leading maritime companies from around the world. It is also expected to welcome more than 7,000 visitors comprising leading maritime experts and specialists from the UAE, the region and the world who will all gather under a single platform to discuss the latest developments and review the most promising solutions and opportunities in Dubai’s maritime sector.
