Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) participated in the Marhaban Madrasti (Welcome to my school) activity, organised by Dubai Educational Zone, under the theme ‘I pledge to my emirate.’ This supports DEWA’s ongoing awareness campaigns aimed at achieving its developmental objectives, and strategic plans to enhance environmental sustainability in Dubai. This supports the efforts of educational institutions, to reduce consumption, and raise future generations. The activity was held during one week, and raised awareness among students and faculty members, in regard to the sensible and responsible use of energy. DEWA’s Conservation Team organised a number of activities and workshops to create an interactive and happy environment. Gifts were distributed amongst students to raise awareness, and motivate them through their academic studies, while highlighting the importance of protecting and conserving natural resources.
“We are pleased to be cooperating with the schools of Dubai Educational Zone, to support efforts to raise a generation capable of understanding the importance of our natural resources. This adheres to the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to achieve the sustainable and comprehensive development of the Emirate, and the Dubai Plan 2021 to transform Dubai into a smart, integrated, and connected city that uses its resources sustainably, and is capable of providing clean, healthy and sustainable environmental elements,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“DEWA seeks to enhance relations with its partners and stakeholders to achieve its strategic goals, and promote Dubai’s position as a global hub for trade, finance, tourism, green economy, and sustainability. We encourage the rational use of energy and water, while protecting natural resources and the environment. This is achieved via year-long awareness campaigns, activities, and initiatives. This supports our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to instil a culture of conservation, and spread environmental awareness among the educational sector in the Emirate. We have accomplished a number of achievements in the field of conservation, as a results of our cooperation with Dubai Educational Zone.
We have managed to introduce students to the best practices to reduce consumption, while raising awareness of the latest updates in this field. DEWA works to keep up to date with the latest training and development programmes for students. This supports DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility,” added Al Tayer.
For the past decade, DEWA has been cooperating with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), and Dubai Educational Zone, via the Conservation Award under the theme ‘For a Better Tomorrow,’ which was launched by DEWA to target different educational institutions in the Emirate, and celebrate conventional practices to limit the use of water electricity resources, and reduce consumption. The Conservation Award, is now in its tenth year and has achieved significant results, year after year. DEWA has previously honoured 162 educational institutions and communicated the message of sustainability to over 273,000 students. The total savings achieved by the educational institutions, students and faculty members in electricity consumption since the inception of the Awards is 125 GWh and 24 million gallons in water consumption. This has contributed to reducing nearly 67,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, with financial savings worth AED 90 million.
