Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), in collaboration with the Family Gathering Centre, has organised a programme to support innovation, creativity and education, for a group of elderly Emirati citizens at Dubai Mall. The group was given a first-hand opportunity to experience and learn about a large number of marine creatures inhabiting the Dubai Aquarium. The move complements DEWA’s vision of becoming a sustainable, innovative world-class utility and fulfilling its commitment to implement Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and to promote national identity.
“DEWA’s strategic commitment to maintaining its CSR supports the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, urging the people of the UAE to unite and do good for others, reflecting their commitment to serving the country. CSR is a major part of DEWA’s work and we take high priority in our responsibility towards society.
All year round, DEWA has launched several social development initiatives to encourage and enhance communication among the elderly, and is committed to providing them with a safe and stable life, as they are an important part of our community.
Today’s meeting is an authentic gesture by DEWA employees to show appreciation for their fathers and grandfathers, and to enhance social cohesion. Activities such as these provide employees with a sense of self-satisfaction, a happy work environment and developing a unified society,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
Al Tayer emphasised that it’s important for all individuals and organisations to work to together to care for senior citizens who have contributed a great deal to the growth of the UAE.
Towards the end of the visit, Al Tayer gave gifts to the elderly. During the event, participants listened to Emirati traditional and heritage poems and songs, and other entertaining activities that were enjoyed by attendees. Following this, the group had launch at the Milas restaurant, Executive Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents also attended.
HE Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, commended this programme for the elderly to support innovation, creativity and education
This programme supports innovation and education for the elderly, and was organised following the success of the previous year’s initiative, which was also in cooperation with the Family Gathering Centre. Last year’s event saw DEWA successfully hosting a lunch banquet for a group of elderly Emirati citizens at Al Fanar Restaurant in Dubai Festival City. DEWA is committed to providing a package of services and facilities for senior citizens via the Thukher cards from the Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai.
