Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is participating in Careers UAE, taking place 16-18 May 2016 at Dubai World Trade Centre. DEWA’s stand is ZD-2 at Zabeel Hall. DEWA’s participation is part of its ongoing efforts to recruit skilled Emiratis. This year, DEWA is introducing a mechanism to directly recruit Emiratis for engineering and technical positions. Specialised committees interview candidates and complete employment procedures at the career fair. This supports DEWA’s Emiratisation strategy, and its ongoing efforts to attract Emirati graduates for all sorts of vacancies, especially engineering and technical roles.
“DEWA has achieved excellent results in Emiratisation, with UAE Nationals comprising 85% of senior management and 47.6% in middle management, employing 2,476 Emiratis. DEWA adopts a clear strategy to promote Emiratisation, and hire Emirati staff in specialised and technical positions, as well as develop a generation capable of spearheading the UAE’s water and energy sectors. This supports the vision and directives of our wise leadership, to develop National capabilities. DEWA prioritises Emiratisation in all its operations. DEWA works to trains UAE Nationals and employ them in engineering and technical positions. We are committed to participating in employment exhibitions to target UAE Nationals who want to be engineers and technicians,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
At Careers UAE, DEWA presents the scholarships it provides to Emirati students. These include a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, in collaboration with the Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai (Dubai Men’s College), Bachelor’s degrees in either electrical or mechanical engineering in collaboration with different government and private universities, a Bachelor’s degree in either electrical or mechanical engineering in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates University, and a Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering for 60 students in private universities, 20 scholarships in renewable energy at Sharjah University, and 10 scholarships in renewable energy in universities abroad.
DEWA also highlights the DEWA Academy, which trains and qualifies young Emiratis both academically and practically in various technical and professional areas covering production, transmission and distribution of energy and water, and water desalination. Graduates will receive their diplomas from the UK’s Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC), one of the pioneering vocational-rehabilitation organisations in the world. The certificates are equivalent to the vocational high-school diplomas, enabling graduates to work in different technical fields at DEWA. Students from the DEWA Academy present several projects at DEWA’s stand at Careers UAE.
DEWA also highlights its smart initiatives and projects to increase percentages of renewable and clean energy, as part of its efforts to attract qualified Emirati candidates in these areas. DEWA’s team will present services, projects, and initiatives to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world. These include its three smart initiatives: Shams Dubai, to connect solar energy to buildings, the smart Applications initiative through smart meters, and the Green Charger to establish the infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations.
Al Tayer noted that DEWA adopts a strategy to develop and train skilled Emiratis. DEWA is one of the leading government organisations in the UAE to launch training programmes for Emirati students who wish to further their studies in the energy sector at home and abroad.
“DEWA has a clear vision to increase Emiratisation. This supports the vision of Dubai Government and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. DEWA has a clear strategy to develop and train national staff to meet its work requirements. DEWA’s Emiratisation strategy will take Dubai’s energy sector to the next level of growth, with a generation that is aware of the importance of vocational work, and realises the benefit they provide to their country by joining a programme that will provide them with world-class skills,” added Al Tayer.
“DEWA is working to reach the highest-possible score of Emiratisation in engineering, technical, and vocational positions, especially after its success in the Emiratisation of many administrative and financial jobs.
