Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) works to enhance the quality of life in Dubai, and achieve sustainable development while ensuring the happiness of generations to come. DEWA implements developmental projects across all operations, and develops infrastructure to improve its services at the highest standards of efficiency, reliability, and accountability.
“In July 2016, DEWA awarded a contract for international advisory services to develop the fourth phase of the Aweer Power Station ‘H,’ worth a total of AED 22.2 million. This supports the vision of the wise government, and enhances the happiness of citizens, residents and visitors, providing a healthy environment for the public to live, work, and visit. DEWA works to provide, and ensure the long-term sustainability and water and electricity services,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“The project aims to test, supply, and install three gas turbines with a total capacity of 700 megawatts (MW). The first turbine will be operational by 1 January 2020, the second on 1 March 2020, and the third on 30 April 2020,” added Al Tayer.
The power station is one of DEWA’s most important projects, to help meet the growing demand for electricity. The station is equipped with the latest control systems and technologies to reduce emissions. The turbines will be completely fuelled with natural gas. The Aweer Power Station ‘H’ has a current total capacity of 1974 MW, consisting of 607 MW for the first phase, 421 MW for the second phase, and 946 MW for the third phase. Once the 700MW fourth phase is complete, the station will have a total capacity of 2674MW.
