Beirut, March 9th 2015: Sexual tensions, jealousy, anger, lies and wine will all mix into a troubled dinner, full of surprises and unexpected situations in Marcel Ghosn’s new play- “The Invitation”.
Ghosn strikes with no mercy– in the best sense of the term. He criticizes the Lebanese society where it hurts, unafraid of hitting a nerve with his work. He does this with laughter but as you go through the play, you can see a certain bitter reflection of our culture’s current reality.
“The Invitation” play is a romantic comedy that takes place in an apartment. The host, a 28 years old woman newly married, is feeling lonely and decides to plan this night. She invites some old friends who happen to be in Beirut on a dinner gathering at her place. Her friends, a Don Juan, a soon to be married couple and another“happy” couple attend her gathering.
In the running of “The Invitation”, Ghosn unveils a lot of hidden secrets between couples. An old lover is invited, someone is obsessed with a married woman, a prostitute is brought to the dinner, a big lie is uncovering itself and some conflicts appear.
With a track record in such social comedies, Ghosn and his actors succeed in presenting the ideal characters making the situations they are performing hilarious.
“The Invitation” which takes viewers into the complex world of everyday relationships and their different problems, is performed at Le Theatre Beryte throughout this month, from Friday to Sunday at 8:30 P.M.
Tickets are available at all Librairie Antoine branches.
