Alfa officially launches the free “Najat” application for the Lebanese Red Cross on smartphones

and calls subscribers to download the application and support Lebanese Red Cross teams in their humanitarian mission Beirut, Lebanon, October 27, 2014: Alfa, managed by Orascom Telecom, officially launched today the “Najat application” of the Lebanese Red Cross for smartphones, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy. The application is now available for free on app stores of iOS and Android mobile operating systems.

This importance of this application lies in that it simplifies the work of ambulance and emergency crews in the Lebanese Red Cross (LRC), as it helps their central operations room to directly locate the address of the person in need of relief when receiving a call to the toll-free LRC emergency number 140.

Because every moment counts in saving the life of a human being, Alfa calls citizens and smartphone users to download this application in order to simplify the work of LRC ambulance and emergency, especially in the absence of precise numbering of the streets in Lebanon.

After the app is downloaded, the subscriber is required to register his address (two addresses at the most) along with two phone numbers in addition to his personal number. For more precision, the subscriber must be present at the registered address in order for the LRC central operations room to be able to locate the home address easily when receiving a to its call toll-free number 140.

Alfa has launched the app with support from the Ministry of Telecommunications and in collaboration with the Najat Waked family members, who were behind the idea of Najat. This was after they lost their mother, Najat, because the Red Cross paramedics could not get there in a timely manner when the family found it difficult to specify the house’s location over the phone, for lack of precise street name and numbering.

Alfa CEO and Chairman Marwan Hayek congratulated “all the partners in this humanitarian project and all the teams that have worked throughout the past months in order for this application to see the light”. He hoped that Najat will achieve its mission and help save lives, pointing out that “the humanitarian objective of this project and its intended message are what prompted us from the start to support it with all possible means”.

He added that “Alfa’s adoption of this project stems from the belief in its community responsibility towards the Lebanese society and the need to support civil society initiatives. It also comes in the context of our close and continuous cooperation with NGOs for people’s welfare in Lebanon”.

For his part, the Secretary General of the Lebanese Red Cross Mr. Georges Kettaneh praised everyone who contributed to the success of this project, especially Alfa and the Waked family.
