The introduction of a first of its kind “5 carriers 3G site” increases the network capacity by 65%
Beirut – Lebanon on Nov 13th 2014 - alfa, managed by Orascom Telecom Media and Technology, marked a new international technological achievement at the BDL Beirut Marathon, as part of the procedures taken to accommodate the big pressure that was anticipated on the network due to the participation of more than 40,000 male and female runners in the Marathon.
To cater for this anticipated pressure on its network, alfa has put in place a “5 carriers 3G site”, which enabled increasing the network capacity by 65% in comparison to the normal network capacity. This procedure is the first of its kind in the region, and among the first in the World.
alfa has also placed in the race two CoWs with two sectors to help cater for the forecasted pressure on the network, and secured the 4G LTE coverage along the Marathon route.
These measures, and in particular the introduction of the “5 carriers 3G site”, allowed accommodating the pressure on the network, in addition to securing seamless voice services and high-speed internet throughout the Marathon route.
