Autumn/Winter 2012 - Hot on the heels of Hackett London menswear, Little Britons looks up to its older brother for guidance and adds its own defining characteristics. With all of the design elements that have become Hackett signatures – luxury, quality and a fusion of old and new – Little Britons draws inspiration from a variety of locations to create its best collection yet.
Tearing through the hallowed halls of Britain’s most renowned academic institutions, Hackett’s future students have taken the traditional styles of their academic peers and made them their own. Collegiate stripes are a key feature, teamed with a fine ‘pyjama striped’ shirt or chalk striped twill blazer with brightly hued undercollar. Brights are also a key element in putting the modernity in the modern prep story. Chinos, corduroy trousers and jeans in gold, winter berry and primary colours provide a contemporary twist to the academically-inspired story and look best when worn with shawl-collared cardigans and padded gilets.
Town and Country
There is fun to be had exploring the sites of the cities, but for the explorers of tomorrow, the Countryside offers the excitement of the great outdoors. Rich in pattern and texture, this Autumnal-hued story shrinks classic pieces including corduroy collared paddock jackets and herringbone tweed blazers with contrast elbow patches and pairs them with rich-toned cotton trousers and chambray shirts with subtle plaid cotton trims on undercollars and plackets. Hackett’s ‘Horse and Hound’ check has been given an update in richer, deeper tones and a range of pieces have also been created in the new celebratory ‘Jubilee Check’ in navy, red and grey.
As they take to the slopes with confidence, Little Britons can out-manoeuvre most on their skis, but it is still important to look the part both off-piste and on. The Alpine story is all about extra layers as cosy padded parkas are layered over tactile chunky cable knitwear lined with tartan flannel. Fine knits also feature in the range with detailed Fairisle patterned tank tops and sweaters and are best worn layered between pure cotton shirting and marl hooded gilets. Hackett’s affiliation with the increasingly popular Snow Polo tournament in Klosters is proudly reinforced with motif emblazoned striped long sleeve polos, graphic print sweaters and long sleeved tees. The icy surroundings of the Alpine landscape provide the basis of the colour palette for the story which is in off white, warm grey, ice blue and a few flashes of deep carmine to ensure wearers stand out on the slopes.
Aston Martin Racing
Budding speed demons put the pedal to the metal in slick separates from Hackett’s ongoing collaboration with Aston Martin Racing. In a streamlined palette of midnight navy, magnesium and graphite grey injected with flashes of searing scarlet, the collection takes direct inspiration from the styles and design details seen on and around the racetrack. Iconic zip front leather jackets are sleek and minimal while patch-pocketed cargo pants and contrast panelled jersey marl sweaters take direct reference from the utility styles seen in the pits. Replicating the logo-embellished attire of those in the thick of the action, Aston Martin Racing and Hackett logos and motifs are in abundance on many of the key pieces within this story.
